PETALING JAYA: Digi.com Bhd has revised its guidance for the rest of the financial year with focus on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) to normalise, consequently having a low single-digit decline after taking into consideration the global inflation outlook and rising interest rates.
The telco operator posted a 21.39% year-on-year (y-o-y) drop in net profit to RM220.04mil or an earnings per share (EPS) of 2.83 sen for the second quarter ended June 30, while revenue slipped 4.9% y-o-y to RM1.54bil.
The drop in earnings in the period was due to higher net finance costs and a higher tax provision due to the Cukai Makmur, it said in a statement yesterday.
Digi’s service revenue was impacted by lower contribution from the prepaid segment.
Despite the weaker profit, Digi rewarded shareholders with a second interim dividend of 2.8 sen per share, equivalent to RM218mil, payable to shareholders on Sept 30, 2022.
The interim dividend translates into a pay-out ratio of 98.9%.
Digi noted that its pre-paid service revenue for the quarter fell 4.1% y-o-y to RM616mil following the exit of the low-end rotational migrant segment.

The revenue growth recorded in post-paid service revenue, which was up 1.13% y-o-y to RM629mil, helped offset the fall in the prepaid segment.
Blended mobile average revenue per user remained resilient at RM42, it said.
The telco pointed out that it was on a sequential growth trend, given its service revenue had risen 1.3% over the immediate preceding quarter to RM1.33bil.
Post-paid revenue was up 0.2% quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) on healthy demand for smart bundles, B2B and broadband services while the pre-paid segment recorded a sequential revenue growth of 0.2%, the first time after three consecutive quarters.
Of special note was improvement in the fibre and digital segments, where revenue jumped 40% q-o-q and 21.7% q-o-q respectively on higher demand for faster connectivity and gaming activities.
“Total data traffic rose 4.9% y-o-y, while monthly average data per user stood at 21.9GB.
“Average download speeds further improved to 44.1 Mbps from 42.2 Mbps in the last quarter, reflecting the company’s network leadership position and its commitment to providing the fastest and most consistent network experience to its customers,” said the telco.
Digi shares closed up two sen to RM3.42 apiece yesterday on the news.
